Nowadays, string light sets come in different colors as well as different shapes. By looking around online, you would be able to find star shaped, flip-flop shaped, and even Playboy-logo shaped string lights. The use of these twinkling party lights has also gone from practical to decorative.

A normal house can look very festive just by adding a> string of lights in strategic places. Likewise, Christmas trees would not have that holiday feel if there were no twinkling lights to be seen. It seems as if every special occasion is not complete without a stringlight set.

In the Philippines, where Christmas is celebrated from September to January, string lights decorate almost every house and building. They vary in sizes from the smallest ones used for your home Christmas tree to huge ones use for giant mall Christmas trees. They can be alight all the time or blinking in time with a Christmas tune.

I grew up in this environment, and I remember how the entire family would start decorating our Christmas tree in September. Dad would take out the artificial tree from itsbox and would remove all the dust, while Mom would take out the Christmas decorations. My siblings and I would be in charge of putting the decorations on the tree. Dad would then take out all the string lights and would check to make sure that each and every light was working.

This yearly ritual is still one of the happiest memories that I have. We would not always agree about where to put the decorations, but the mere fact that we were together made the simplest tasks like putting up a Christmas tree very special. Seeing the strings of lights around my own family's tree each year always reminds me of what a special time it is!
